Troi Activator Plug-in 3.1

May 16th 2012: Today we unveiled a new version of Troi Activator Plug-in, our plug-in for triggering scripts remotely from an other computer. Troi Activator Plug-in v3.1 has been tested with FileMaker Pro 12 and comes with examples in the new .fmp12 format. Just as v3.0 it can still serve as an Image Upload Server. It also works seamlessly in conjunction with QuickTrans our app for iOS devices, making uploading images a snap!

New: Image Upload Server

Troi Activator Plug-in 3 can now receive uploaded images, including GPS coordinates. Troi Activator 3 is designed to work in tandem with our new iPhone app QuickTrans, which can send the images to Troi Activator, which then triggers a script and can put the image into the database. With the GPS coordinates a location on a (Google) map can be shown. You can use this functionality to easily upload data from remote devices. More details on the Image Upload Server page

Script triggering in FileMaker 10, 11 and 12

Starting with FileMaker 10, script triggers are a native feature of the FileMaker product. However, Troi Activator Plug-in is still needed if you want to trigger scripts on a different computer. Windows 7 Compatible

Troi Activator Plug-in 3 runs natively with FileMaker Pro 12 and FileMaker Pro Advanced 12, but also with FileMaker Pro 10 and 11.
Troi Activator Plug-in 3.1 is compatible with Windows Vista and Windows 7. The Mac OS X version is a Universal plug-in which runs natively on PowerPC and Intel Macs!

What is new?

Troi Activator Plug-in 3.1 is compatible with FileMaker Pro 12 but also for this release the function calls stay completely the same, so you don't have to rewrite any scripts!
Version 3.1 release has these changes:

• Made compatible and tested with FileMaker Pro 12.
• Made small change to the bundle (on Mac OS X) and FileVersion resource (on Windows) so it now reflects the correct version number.
• Added new switch "-GetPluginInstallPath" to the Actr_Version function: This switch will return the path where a plug-in is installed, for example "/Mac HD/Users/User Name/Library/Application Support/FileMaker/Extensions/Troi_Activator.fmplugin".
• Added new example file EasyInstallTroiPlugins.fmp12 (in the FileMaker Pro 12 formatted download only), which contains the plug-ins and can install the plug-in from within FileMaker Pro 12.

The 3.0 release previously added these main new features and fixes:

• Made compatible with FileMaker Pro 10 and FileMaker Pro 11 and added compatibility with Windows 7.
• Added Image Upload Server functionality. (Mac OS X only) see more details
• The Image Upload Server can handle POST requests from a web form.
• The Image Upload Service is easily discoverable, as it is also broadcast with Bonjour.
• Troi Activator is compatible to run under FileMaker Server. The plug-in now creates log files when running under FileMaker Server to make troubleshooting installing easier and provides feedback regarding errors and registration status.
  You need a special Server/Web license to use this plug-in on FileMaker Server. See the Activator details page for more details.
• Improved registration including ways to remove the registration data.
• Updated the User Guide and Overview.fp7.
• Fixed a few bugs.

You can still buy 10-user packs and 25-user packs. These multi-user packs are cross-platform and are an easy and cost effective way to purchase several licenses. You can buy them in our shop.

Background processing

Activator Plug-in can trigger silent events and background events. This allows you to keep the main application free, while the background FileMaker application, for example a runtime application, does some time consuming work on data.

Control function

Troi Activator has a control function to disable all script triggers, so you can do maintenance on the database.

Trigger Scripts on remote computers!

Troi Activator Plug-in is a very powerful tool for triggering scripts remotely. All from within FileMaker you can:

• trigger a FileMaker script on a different computer!
• trigger a FileMaker script over the Internet!
• use the built-in security to prevent unauthorized triggering
• send a number (e.g. a record ID) and a long text with the trigger
• start and stop listening for remote trigger messages with a script step
• communicate with databases in different FileMaker versions or even runtimes.

This allows you to:

• notify a colleague (on a different computer) of changes in his/her appointments
• start processing, like for example retrieve email on a server computer
• get someone out of a record, so that it is no longer locked.

The possibilities are only limited by your imagination.

More triggering!

Except from remote triggering you can also:

• trigger a script from a tooltip calculation!
• trigger a script on a specified date and time
• schedule events which trigger any script you want
• validate fields on exiting a record with a custom script suited to your specific needs
