Example version 7.1

Thank you for your interest in Troi Plug-ins. This example describes how to install the AutoUpdate feature for Troi Plug-ins for FileMaker Pro 8 to 10™.

Recommended reading

If you are using FileMaker Server 10: please read the document "fms10_autoupdate_en.pdf" in the Documentation folder of the install image. For FileMaker Server 8 please read the document "FM8_AutoUpdate.pdf", which came with FileMaker Server 8.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

Installing the (Troi) Plug-Ins On FileMaker Server.

  • Put the TroiAutoUpdate.fp7 file inside your FileMaker Server database folder.
  • Open TroiAutoUpdate.fp7 in FileMaker Server. Make sure the permissions are OK and it is shared.
  • Create the necessary folders inside the AutoUpdate folder, inside your FileMaker Server database folder.
TIP you can use the folders that are inside the folder "Put in AutoUpdate folder" as a starting point. See the screenshot below for an example of how the structure should look.

    auto update folders

  • Copy the plug-ins to the right place inside the folders. NB: See below for .tar versions of our plug-ins.
  • Make sure AutoUpdate is enabled in FileMaker Server.

Installing the (Troi) Plug-Ins on FileMaker Server.

  • On each FileMaker Pro client open the file TroiAutoUpdate.fp7 on the server via the Open Remote menu under the File menu.
  • Follow the instructions on the layout of the file TroiAutoUpdate.fp7.
  • After you have tried it you should integrate the example into your normal system, so that the AutoUpdate is checked once a day for example.

Notes

AutoUpdate sees different filenames

AutoUpdate treats the filenames quite restrictive. For example:

Platform

Real filename

Filename parameter needed by AutoUpdate

Mac

Troi_File.fmplugin.tar

Troi_File

Windows

Troi_File_Plugin.fmx

Troi_File_Plugin

To make this work you need to create 2 sets of folders with the correct name, one for Mac and one for Windows. See the screenshot. For future plug-ins we hope to make it possible to have one folder only. We already did this for Troi_Encryptor.

Mac OS X plug-ins only: plug-ins need to be in TAR format

Mac OS X plug-ins only: The plug-ins need to be formatted in .tar format. See our web site on this page:

http://www.troi.com/software/autoupdate.html.

On this page we strive to supply the latest plug-in in .tar format.

You can also do this (on Mac OS X) with the tar utility of the Terminal. For example type this in the Terminal window:

tar --create --file Troi_File.fmplugin.tar Troi_File.fmplugin

This will create the tar file Troi_File.fmplugin.tar from the real plug-in in the current folder.

Change the records to your need

We have created a few records in the example file, with the data for the Troi File Plug-in, Troi Text Plug-in and Troi Dialog Plug-in. You need to change this according to your situation. Also when we release new plug-ins you might need to add a record for that plug-in.
