New Put and Delete methods!

October 10th, 2012 Today we released Troi URL Plug-in 3, which adds 2 new powerful functions, which implement the PUT and DELETE methods for interacting with web servers. These methods allow you to transfer files, images or data to web servers. And delete them too!
With Troi URL Plug-in 3 you can still retrieve web pages, images and fill in HTTP forms all from FileMaker Pro.
Troi URL Plug-in 3 further improves compatibility with FileMaker Pro 12. We have supplied example files in the new .fmp12 file format. It also adds the example file EasyInstallTroiPlugins.fmp12, which demonstrates how to automatically install the plug-in directly from a container field.

Troi URL Plug-in 3 also contains three authorization functions, which make it very easy to work with a Twitter account and post tweets! We have included an example to get you tweeting in no time! There also adds several other improvements, like a new function to URL encode text.

Works with FileMaker Pro 10, 11 and 12!

Troi URL Plug-in 3 is compatible with FileMaker Pro 10, 11 and FileMaker Pro 12 on Windows and is a Universal Plug-in on Mac OS X. Troi URL Plug-in also works with runtimes created with FileMaker Pro Advanced 10 to 12.

Run as a server-side plug-in

Troi URL Plug-in 3 is compatible to run under FileMaker Server: it can run as a server-side plug-in or as a plug-in used by the web publishing engine when using FileMaker Server. This means that you can use the powerful internet functions in server-side scripts, opening up lots of new possibilities. Do much more than the web viewer

The native Web viewer introduced with FileMaker Pro 8.5 also made it possible to get data from web sites. However, Troi URL Plug-in can do much more:

Fill out web forms from FileMaker Pro

Troi URL Plug-in can help you fill in forms on the Internet, all from FileMaker Pro. It also retrieves data from any HTTP URL. All from FileMaker Pro you can:

• use the POST method to fill in a web form and retrieve the result directly in FileMaker Pro
• use the GET method to retrieve data and images
• use a secure connection (HTTPS) using SSL
• get access to password protected web pages
• encode text into HTTP format
• new: send your request through a proxy server, even if the proxy server requires a username and password
• show a custom progress dialog during the retrieval (Mac OS X only)

Send (authorized) tweets from FileMaker!

Troi URL Plug-in 3 makes it easy to authorize an account using the oAuth protocol. Twitter uses this protocol to secure their Twitter API. After authorization tweets (and other commands) can be sent for an account from FileMaker without the need to log in.

More powerful: big parameters and images too!

Troi URL Plug-in 3 uses the native External Function API introduced with FileMaker Pro 7. The plug-in functions now have a size limit of 1 Gb per parameter. Also the function parameters support Unicode characters.
You can even get JPEG, GIF and PNG images directly into a container field.
